Fedor loses again! Henderson?s power turns out the lights

Facing a third straight loss, Fedor Emelianenko tried some new tricks before and during his fight against Dan Henderson. But his opponent was simply better and a little more resilient in the main event of Strikeforce's event at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
Just seconds away from possibly losing the fight after a Fedor barrage, Henderson kept his wits, pulled off a nifty escape and landed an uppercut that changed the fight. That one punch plopped Fedor straight down on his face where Henderson landed three more shots and referee Herb Dean chose to save the fallen former champ at 4:12 of the first round.
From 2000-08, Emelianenko was considered one of the top three mixed martial arts fighters, if not the top fighter, in the world. He reeled off 31 wins without a legitimate loss (only loss due to fight stopped because of a cut) .
But it's been a rough run recently for the former PRIDE king. He lost via shocking submission to Fabricio Werdum, was dominated by a massive heavyweight in Antonio Silva and Saturday, he was stopped via strikes for the first time in his career by the Strikeforce light heavyweight champ, who came into the fight giving away 16 pounds.
Henderson (28-8) fought 18 times in PRIDE in Japan, so he's well aware of Fedor's place in the sport.
"I've been a huge fan of Fedor forever and I respect him so much as a fighter, and what he has done for the sport," Henderson told Showtime's Gus Johnson. "For me, [this win] is a huge accomplishment compared to a lot of the things I've done in this sport."
The finish was as shocking as it was exciting, simply because it happened so quickly.

Henderson, 40, got off to a quick start, but Emelianenko seemed to get back into the fight when he drilled his opponent with a nice combination that backed him up. Then Fedor landed a thudding left uppercut that dropped Henderson near the cage. Emelianenko went in for the kill without securing top control. He got off three shots that grazed Henderson, but the former Olympic Greco-Roman wrestler used his grappling to grab Fedor's right knee and pull him off. Henderson immediately jumped behind him and unleashed a vicious right uppercut under Fedor's right arm. The impact was delayed for a split second and then Fedor fell flat on his face. Henderson jumped on top, landed two more rights and a left. That's when the referee arrived to save Fedor. All that in roughly nine seconds.
Fedor (31-4, 1 NC) told Johnson, he thought the fight was stopped prematurely.
"I think it was early. I don't want to say anything bad about the referee, but it seemed to me like it was early," Emelianenko said through an interpreter. "I was clearly hit, but wasn't hit flush, directly. It seems like I could've continued."
It was hard to say either way. Fedor did appear stunned as he sat up after the finish, but far from rocked.
Fedor, 34, was non-committal about his future, saying it's God's will whether he fights again. Ultimately, it probably won't be Emelianenko's choice. Emelianenko was reportedly making $1.5 million for this fight. With three straight losses, it's hard to imagine Dana White and company retaining his services.
Henderson's future is also in doubt. This was the last fight on his contract and he'd be a natural to slide back over to the UFC where he was 5-2 during two stints with the bigger promotion. Henderson left the UFC back in 2009, signing a big deal with Strikeforce. He could easily move back into the UFC's 205 or 185 division and be an immediate title contender.

Duke Roufus talks about Pat Barry and the future of his gym

"Watch out, there's going to be fireworks tonight," Anthony Pettis said as he laced up gloves for a night of sparring at Roufus Sport.
It was a muggy, hot night in Milwaukee, and the air conditioning wasn't working in the main workout room. So much sweat poured off the fighters that a volunteer used a mop to sop up the sweat between each round of sparring, but it didn't matter. The floors were soaked.
Pettis was right, as not a single fighter took it easy. Everyone from UFC fighters Anthony Pettis, Erik Koch and Ben Rothwell to the bankers and lawyers looking for a tough workout to the tweens who look at Pettis with adoring eyes used every second of sparring to bring it. Nothing could make Duke Roufus, the head coach overseeing the practice, happier.
"There's big stars in there, but they take a knee at the end of practice like everyone else. There's some big stars out there who couldn't handle that. It's a team. It's great what we do in the UFC, but I'm also happy with the day-to-day of what we do in this place."
Despite recent losses by Pettis and Danny Downes, and the departure of heavyweight Pat Barry, Roufus' gym has grown so much that they will soon upgrade into a 14,000 square-foot complex across the street. Roufus acknowledges the losses, but points out his style isn't one-size-fits-all.
"I have an environment that isn't for everybody. I run it more like a collegiate wrestling room. Some guys like that, and some guys don't. Everyone feeds off of it. It was the hottest day of the year, and we had guys going hard," Roufus told Cagewriter.
Though Barry has moved onto Death Clutch with Brock Lesnar in Minnesota, Roufus wishes his former pupil the best.
"We've had some personnel changes. Pat Barry has moved on. It's for the best. I wish him well. It sucks that he got knocked out like that. Getting knocked out cold is a scary thing."
Roufus would rather focus on the fighters he has in the room. Ben Rothwell and Erik Koch both have fights coming up, with Rothwell fighting Mark Hunt at UFC 135 and Koch taking on Jonathan Brookins at Ultimate Fight Night 25. Both also appreciate having Roufus in their corner.
"It's cool because Duke is like a student who never stops learning. You think a guy who has been around martial arts for 30 years would think, 'Oh, I know enough!' He doesn't stop. He watches videos. He watches fights. He's coming up with new ways to do things. For me, that's exciting to have a guy who has an open mind. Close-minded guys end up as victories on my record," Rothwell said.
All in the family
Pettis, the final WEC lightweight champion who brought fame to the gym with his "Showtime" kick, appreciates the environment at the gym.
"Being here now, Erik Koch lives with me. It's a family. We live together, we train together, we do everything together. We all have the same dream. We all want to be the best," Pettis said.
Calling the gym a family isn't lip service for Pettis, either. His younger brother Sergio, a miniature version of Anthony who is already making waves as a fighter in Milwaukee, worked out next to his brother. Both had a tough time with the planks and wall sits required at the end of practice, but encouraged each other through the workout.
Pettis originally came to Roufus Sport to train, not compete. He needed a way to avoid the trouble that befell many of his relatives, and he found it in MMA. Now, he's a leader, with young fighters wanting to show Pettis "the new kick they made up."
Roufus sees how martial arts has been a savior, and wants to open the doors of his gym so that more people around Milwaukee can find that refuge.
"Martial arts saved Anthony. Saved me, too. I could have gotten into some bad things. A lot of these kids have turned their lives around. A lot of these kids don't have the best life at home," Roufus said of his hopes for the future of Roufus Sport. "A lot of people are looking for something. Instead of a bar, come here. I'd like it to be like a community center. When you're not training, have fun. I'd rather have them here than be in trouble."

Video analysis: Iole and Meltzer with inside scoop on how Ortiz-Evans II was made for UFC 133
Who saw this one coming? Less than two weeks ago, many folks thought Tito Ortiz would be struggling as newly retired fighter right now. Instead, he's just been booked at UFC 133 for a main event fight against Rashad Evans, the No. 1 contender in the UFC light heavyweight division. What a turnaround!
Ortiz shocked the MMA world by taking out Ryan Bader at UFC 132. The quick win and an injury to Phil Davis, provided a crazy opportunity to fight in the main event at UFC 133. Tito turned down the offer at first, but when Lyoto Machida asked for a big payday, the UFC asked Ortiz again and he accepted.
Dave Meltzer and Kevin Iole joined Cagewriter to discuss Tito's wild ride, the impact Ortiz's insertion onto the card will have on PPV and gate sales and if Machida just buried himself when it comes to getting a title shot.

Strikeforce Grand Prix semifinals headed to Cincinnati

Strikeforce has decided on the location of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix semifinals. MMA Junkie reported that Josh Barnett vs. Sergei Kharitonov and Antonio Silva vs. Daniel Cormier will take place in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The location is notable because Barnett, a fighter who has tested positive for steroids in the past, and will now fight under a state commission that, along with Nevada and New Jersey, is respected as one of the most thorough in country. Earlier this week, Ohio Athletic Commission head Bernie Profato told Cagewriter that extra requirements are expected of a fighter who has tested positive in the past.
"If anybody, I don't care who it is, if it's my brother, if they tested previous for drugs, they're going to have to take a pre-fight test," Profato said. "If I look at that database, and I see they've failed a test, then we're going to take a pre-fight test within 30 days of the fight."
They will be joined by a middleweight championship bout between Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Luke Rockhold, "King" Mo Lawal's return to action against Roger Gracie, Josh Thomson vs. Maximo Blanco, and Olympic silver medalist Yoel Romero's U.S. debut against Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante.

In Memoriam: Aaron Robinson
I first met Aaron Robinson in Farellones, Chile in 2009—we were down there for a catalog shoot with K2, and it was the first day of two weeks on the road. We spent the afternoon shaking off jet lag and searching La Parva for something to ride with a crew 10-deep, but it was pretty bleak—the infamous Andean wind had scoured the mountain to sketchy hard pack and rocks. Still, we rode until 4pm to get our legs back and get to know each other, jibbing a little gully ‘til the pomas closed.
Upon returning to the hostel for dinner, Aaron was missing. Former K2 Team Manager Kevin Winkel set to stressing out about his whereabouts for several hours before Aaron appeared out of the alpenglow, a huge grin on his face. He had hiked the imposing chute of McConkeys, and returned with point-and-shoots of amber-hued powder spray, evidence of his first real turns in Chile. It was indicative of Aaron’s approach to life—always finding a reason to smile, always making the most of the day. Throughout that trip, he stayed positive despite sometimes suspect conditions, approaching every day eager to make most of it, learning how to talk to the senoritas in their native tongue, throwing himself into local culture with genuine interest and enthusiasm. With a positive outlook comes positive experiences—Aaron knew, more than anything, how to enjoy his place in the present, and it rubbed off on everyone around him.
Through the past several years, I was lucky enougn to ride and travel with Aaron in his home state of Montana, the Cascades and beyond. The positive energy never waned—with an innate sense of speed and terrain, his effortless flow on the mountain matched his effortless flow in life. Indeed, Aaron was a great ambassador for snowboarding, for freeriding, and for humanity as a whole.
The news of Aaron’s passing today while snowboarding in Chile, in the land he had grown to love, weighs heavy on us all. Snowboarding has lost one of its most genuine, talented individuals—the world at large has lost one of its most kind hearted souls. Today, our thoughts are with the Robinson family and everyone whose lives he touched around the globe.
Send in peace, A-Rob. We’ll miss you.
Kaufman tears apart Carmouche?s face at Strikeforce Challengers 17

Liz Carmouche shocked the world by hanging with Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen, but she couldn't catch Sarah Kaufman off-guard. The former champ was prepared to stuff Carmouche's takedown game and worked beautifully behind a jab on her way to an easy unanimous decision victory, 30-27 on all cards, at Strikeforce Challengers 17 in Las Vegas.
Kaufman (14-1) lost her title to Coenen last October. Now she'll wait to see what happens on the next Strikeforce card in Chicago. At the end of the month, Coenen defends her title against Miesha Tate. Unless there's a controversial decision in that one, requiring a rematch, one would think Kaufman gets the next shot to get her gold back.
"What I need to happen is Marloes Coenen to defend that title. I need to be the next fight in there," Kaufman told Showtime announcer Mauro Ranallo. "I want to take the title back, I want to avenge my loss and I hope the fans want to see that."
If she boxes the way she did tonight against Carmouche, any fight fan will enjoy Kaufman in the cage. Carmouche has only been a pro since early 2010 and it showed. Her aggression cost her throughout. She'd charge into the pocket to throw a right and leave her left hand too low. Kaufman nailed her throughout with short rights inside. The real damage was done by the volume of Kaufman jabs. By the middle of the second round, it appeared that Carmouche nose was busted. At the end of the round, there was blood splattered all over her face and shoulders.
"I feel pretty good about the win. I know Liz, even though she doesn't have a large record, is very tough, very strong. And she puts up a good fight. She's in here to fight," said Kaufman.
Kaufman was also brilliant with her takedown defense. Getting the fight off the feet was the only shot Carmouche had in the fight, but she was thwarted on all but one takedown attempt. Even in that case, Kaufman rose to her feet within 10 seconds.
Daley says his wrestling deficiency is overplayed
On Saturday night, the last thing Paul Daley wants to be doing is stare at the arena ceiling for much his fight against Tyron Woodley. In the past, he hasn't much say where the fight goes against a former college wrestler like Woodley. Daley and his wrestling Kenny Johnson say his Strikeforce bout this weekend will be different.
Johnson, a former Olympian who wrestled at Iowa, has increased his time spent with the British slugger.
"We started picking up the pace in the last few years and his wrestling has gone through the roof," Johnson said (3:50 mark). "He's really dedicated a lot of time and tried to become a mixed martial artist."
Fight fans' last memory of Daley against an elite former college wrestler was Josh Koscheck at UFC 113. Daley was taken down at will and smothered for 15 minutes. The Brit says forget that fight, Woodley isn't in Koscheck's league.
"He's not as big as Josh Koscheck. He is as athletic, but on the technical side, I don't think he can compete with Josh Koscheck," Daley told USA Today. "People are comparing this to that. People do forget in the Koscheck fight, there are takedowns that I stopped. I think that Josh Koscheck is a higher level than Tyron Woodley, so even if I'm able to stop two of his takedowns or stuff them or stall two of his takedowns back then, I think Tyron Woodley's going to have a very difficult time taking me down when I'm on form, when I'm 100%."
Daley (27-10-2) is fully dedicated to shoring up his weaknesses.
"He (Johnson) lives at my house. He eats with me. So if we're not training, we're talking about wrestling; we're looking at footage. So I think people are going to be very shocked, and I think that's an area where Tyron Woodley is underestimating me, and I think that's going to work in my benefit," said Daley.
The biggest question mark for Woodley (8-0) is his experience. He's never been in the cage with someone so seasoned.
"I'm much bigger. I'm much stronger than he thinks. I'm a lot more experienced than him. I don't think he realizes how that's going to play out in this fight," said Daley.
When talking about future opponents, Daley dropped an interesting nugget during this interview.
"There's a mystery guy. There's a mystery guy that's been signed by Strikeforce that Scott Coker's mentioned, and he said that the winner of this fight could possibly be fighting him immediately for the title. There's lots of speculation; I really have no clue, but I want to be back in a position of fighting for a title," said Daley.
Who could it be?
Marquardt not heading to Bellator as he fights off criticism from B.J. Penn

Apparently the "Nate Marquardt's a nice guy" stuff is long gone. The former UFC middleweight contender, who had run ins with both Pennsylvania and New Jersey over his testosterone replacement therapy use, is getting battered from all sides. Bellator's Hector Lombard called him a cheater earlier this week and now B.J. Penn has jumped on board the "Slam Nate Express."
@BJPenndontcom and @NathanMarquardt engaged in a little Twitter throw down yesterday.

MMA fans on Twitter are choosing sides. A newly combative Marquardt is getting blasted by some followers and spoke with MMAjunkie to defend himself.
"Some of the fighters that think they're so cool and tough by kicking a guy when he's down ? as far as my career, this has been one of the worst times of my life, and these guys are calling me a cheater and talking crap ? I've taken note as to who those guys are, and I'm going to come for them. Eventually, I'll get them. I don't care if it's in a superfight or if they want to come down to my gym. I'll beat them up for free," Marquardt said.
"I think you know who these guys are ? Ben Askren, B.J. Penn, Paul Daley, Hector Lombard, cowards talking crap about a guy when he's in such a situation. They're trying to take advantage of the situation. They're bullies. Those are the guys I want to beat up."
Not everyone is slamming Marquardt. Others on Twitter have started a #bringnateback hash tag. They're including UFC president Dana White on many of those tweets.
Marquardt and his management team must be banking on White eventually softening his stance. Bellator made an offer to Marquardt, but the two sides couldn't come to terms. It sounds like Marquardt wanted an immediate title shot against Lombard, but Bellator wouldn't back off it's standard tournament format. All new fighters are usually put into a tournament and have to earn a title shot against the reigning champ.
"The reality is that it's not often that a top-10 guy is available... especially when he's coming off a win. Nate's situation was pretty unique. It's an anomaly for a guy like that to become available, so we had discussions. But it just became pretty clear it wasn't the right fit," Rebney told MMAjunkie.
Who's making the mistake in that case? Wouldn't it benefit Bellator to steal away a high profile fighter? Or is it Marquardt, for not taking the only major opportunity that may come his way?

England gets UFC 138 in November, fall fight schedule is sick

Did you enjoy the slight lull in the fight schedule during July? Don't get used to it. With the news that UFC 138 was just added to the Zuffa schedule, the fall shapes up as the busiest slate in fighting history.
Gareth A. Davies from The Telegraph broke the story that Chris Leben and Mark Munoz will square off in the main event in Birmingham, England on Nov. 5 at LG Arena.
Marshall Zelaznik, UFC UK vice-president, told The Telegraph yesterday: "I'm very happy to announce UFC 138 will be bringing fireworks to Birmingham on November 5. The last time the UFC was in the second city was UFC 89 in October 2008, and we are very happy to be going back there this bonfire night."
Bloody Elbow also pointed out that Leben vs. Munoz will be the first non-title five round main event. The UFC announced last month that all main events were going to be five rounds.
Davies says no other British fighters have been finalized for the card yet, but he did suggest Brad Pickett (No. 9 in the USA Today/Bloody Elbow MMA rankings) could face Urijah Faber (No. 4) or Miguel Torres (No. 7).
Update: MMAjunkie reports that Pickett has a fight at UFC 138 against Renan Barao. Barao debuted at UFC 130 with a win over Cole Escovedo.
If you like watching MMA events in person then put together a healthy travel budget because starting with Strikeforce 36 on Sept. 10 there is a Zuffa MMA card 9-of-13 weeks. That may turn into 10-of-14 if a card rumored for Dec. 10 lands in Montreal.
There's are also some great boxing matches that'll fill two of the off weeks. Bernard Hopkins battles Chad Dawson on Oct. 15 and Manny Pacquiao returns on Nov. 12 to face Juan Manuel Marquez. The UFC goes head-to-head against Floyd Mayweather on Sept. 17 and the Showtime Super Six Final with Andre Ward against Carl Froch on Oct. 29.
Fall fight schedule:
9/17 - UFN 23 in New Orleans (Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz)
9/24 - UFC 135 in Denver
10/1 - UFC on Versus 6 in Washington D.C.
10/8 - UFC 136 in Houston
10/15 - BOXING: Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson in A.C.
10/29 - UFC 137 in Las Vegas (Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch)
11/5 - UFC 138 on Spike in Birmingham, U.K.
11/12 - Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas
11/19 - UFC 139 in San Jose
12/3 - The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale in Las Vegas
12/10 - UFC 140 rumored for Montreal

Great October sessions
More changes to UFC 133, including a new trailer
With the Phil Davis/Tito Ortiz switcheroo and deletion of Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira from the co-main event, the UFC had to come up with a new trailer for UFC 133. This one has plenty of Ortiz's win over Ryan Bader, but not any mention of the losing streak that came before that win. Bygones, right?
The rest of the card has also been reshuffled. An injury to Alessio Sakara has again canceled his bout with Jorge Rivera. This was the UFC's third try at making that bout happen. Instead, Rivera will face Constantinas Phillippou, who was going to fight Rafael Natal.
Paul Bradley, the fighter who was sent home from the seventh season of "The Ultimate Fighter" because of a skin infection, is getting another chance at the UFC in a bout with Natal. Bradley is on a three-fight winning streak, with all three wins coming by submission. Before that streak started, he had a no-contest due to rainfall at a King of the Cage bout. Yes, rainfall. This is why you have to support local MMA -- Mother Nature finishes fights.

What does ?Anderson Silva-money? get you? A nice new mansion
Lyoto Machida backed out of the planned fight with Rashad Evans because he reportedly wanted "Anderson Silva money," or a pay day more like that of his good friend, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva. Machida thought he was in the position to ask for that kind of cash, but UFC president Dana White balked at this request:
"I opted not to pay him Anderson Silva money and told him when he accomplished all the things that Anderson Silva has accomplished, then maybe he'll make Anderson Silva-type money," an incredulous White told reporters.
Silva is on a 14-fight win streak and lives atop the Yahoo! Sports pound-for-pound rankings. For that, he made $200,000 in his UFC 126 knockout of Vitor Belfort, but that figure doesn't include any bonuses or cuts of pay-per-view buys, which may be a part of his contract. His sponsorship money also isn't included into that figure, and Kevin Iole estimated that he pulls seven figures for a fight.
In fact, he just used that money to buy a new million-dollar home in southern California. The Los Angeles Times reported that Silva bought a $1.76 million home in Palos Verdes Estates to be closer to his training homes. The house has an ocean view, four bedrooms, three and a half baths, a pool and sits on a half-acre lot.
Maybe this gives a clue behind Machida's motivation. Who doesn't want a home with an ocean view?

Overeem out of Strikeforce HWT GP, but still fighting for Zuffa
The Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix has been very solid so far, but if there's one complaint it might be the amount of time it's taking to progress.
Zuffa, looking to speed things along, scheduled the semifinals for Sept. 10. Alistair Overeem says he can't fight in September, so now in a surprising move, Zuffa has dumped him from the tournament.
It's a shocking development, involving the guy who most still felt was the favorite to win the whole thing and eventually secure a fight with UFC champion Cain Velasquez down the road.
Instead, it'll be Daniel Cormier who steps up and faces Antonio "Big Foot" Silva.
The story picked up steam this afternoon when Overeem appeared on AOL.com's MMA Hour.
"What's going to happen next? I don't know. I've had some threats of cutting me out of the tournament if I don't participate. I don't know if they're going to do it. Personally, I don't like to be threatened. If people start talking like that then?be my guest, but then I'm really not going to sing to their tune," Overeem said.
"For them to unilaterally declare, okay, [September 10] is going to be the second round, which I never agreed on, and then threaten me if I don't want it, it?doesn't really show a lot of respect,"
It was more than "a lack of respect," there were actions behind the words. Overeem is out, but that doesn't mean he's getting booted from the Strikeforce roster. He's the Strikeforce heavyweight champ and UFC president Dana White pointed out that Overeem's still with the company.
"Sept. 10 was the date Showtime wants us to go, so it's the date we've got to go. It's unfortunate that Alistair is unavailable, but situations like this are why there are alternates in the tournament," White told MMAjunkie. "Overeem is under contract, and when his pinky toe heals up, we'll get him another fight," White said.
Best of the half-year of MMA in pictures
2011 is only half over, but there's been enough craziness in MMA to fill a decade. Take a look through the best of images so far this year to see reminders of Tito Ortiz's resurgence, Steven Seagal's effect on two fights, the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix and a whole lot of blood.

Fertitta interview Part 3: UFC owner has strong feelings on TRT, wants solutions soon
Testosterone replacement therapy may have been sports' dirty little secret, but Chael Sonnen and Nate Marquardt changed that with their highly publicized run ins with state commissions in California, Nevada, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Those are some of the leading commissions in the country yet there's no standard policy and plenty of gray area to allow fighters to, at a minimum, enhance their performance between fights and during training camp.
The confusion over TRT really concerns UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta.
"What you can't have are guys abusing this to the point where their levels are at some super-human factor, giving them this performance enhancement," Fertitta told ESPNRadio1100's "The MMA Insiders" show in Las Vegas.
Fertitta says testing right before and after a fight isn't enough to prevent fighters from abusing TRT.
"There's got to be more random testing. It seems like, possibly, guys are getting outside the boundary while they're training and managing it down where once the week of the fight [has arrived], they take the test and they're fine. I think that there needs to be this random testing to make sure no one's abusing it," said Fertitta (1:25 mark).
For the UFC, there is no gray area concerning TRT.
"I think we came off with a pretty strong response to Nate Marquardt, and kind how we feel about TRT," Fertitta said. "Our stance is we're working with commissions to say 'look this whole thing has got to come to an end.' If you are going to have some kind of therapy, not only can you not be at the top end of the range, you can't be anywhere near performance enhancing."
Before he was due to fight in the main event at UFC on Versus 4, Marquardt failed his test in Pennsylvania. He was suspended by the Keystone State and then it came to light his TRT issues began in N.J. before UFC 128.
Marquardt didn't have a testosterone use exemption in either state and tested positive at least once. What was the penalty? He was fired by the UFC, with little hopes of a return, but he is once again free to fight in the U.S.. Once he passed a subsequent test in Pennsylvania he was cleared and will serve no suspension.

Warren interview: Disappointed Bellator champ just wants fights
Joe Warren's rapid ascent to world champion has been fun to watch. Now the question is whether he can retain his Bellator featherweight world title and eventually add UFC hardware to his mantle.
To beat the best in the world, he knows he's got to log cage time. Real cage time. Warren is angry that his latest fight went by the wayside. Warren was set to face Patricio "Pitbull" Freire at Bellator 47 next week in Canada. Freire suffered a hand injury and the fight was canceled. Now he has to wait until September for his next fight.
Warren joined ESPNRadio1100's "The MMA Insiders" to talk about his career and what could be a bright future. Now, how will he handle another two months before he has to peak?
"I train full-time man. Since I can remember, I've been in the wrestling room training," Warren said. "As young as I am in fighting, I need to be in there training hard like that. My whole concern is the layoff time between fights."
Warren would love to be fighting 5-6 times a year. He already holds Bellator's 145-pound title and will work towards adding the 135 title with a tournament starting in the fall.
"I'm new at it, so I need to be in there. I can't simulate a live fighting match like I can a live wrestling match. It doesn't go down the way you ever expect it to. I feel like the only way I'm learning is in the ring," said Warren.
Warren's sense of urgency is due to his age. He's going to be 35 later this fall. He spent his 20's and early 30's on the international wrestling scene. He's rolled up a 7-1 record since making his MMA debut in March of 2009.
Warren said he plans on making one more run at the Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling. He'll compete in the U.S. Open in December, with an eye on the U.S. Olympic trials in February.
In the meantime, he'll continue training with guys like Scott Jorgensen and Kit Cope. He'll also mix in more time with Team Alpha Male and Urijah Faber. Warren is slated to face Alexis Vila at Bellator 51 in his opening fight of the bantamweight tournament.

Rosholt moves one step closer to UFC return with win over Horwich
It's never easy against Matt Horwich, but if you fight smart and stay out his guard, you can get a win. Jake Rosholt didn't thrill the crowd in Frisco, Tx., but he stuck to his gameplan and took out the veteran to improve to 5-1 away from UFC in the main event of Shark Fights 17.
Rosholt (12-3, 1 NC) got a unanimous decision victory, 30-27 on all cards. He mixed takedowns with some solid body work on the feet. The former three-time NCAA Div. 1 national champion wrestler at Oklahoma State scored five takedowns in all, but never went to the ground with Horwich, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt fighting under Eddie Bravo.
"I'm just glad to get out here and get a win against him. It was a scrap. I knew it would be 15 minutes of scrapping," Rosholt told HDNet's Ron Kruck. "I was going to land some strikes, land some to his body and wear him out a little bit. I don't see very many people end Matt Horwich .
Following a loss against Kendall Grove at UFC 106, Rosholt was dropped by the UFC. He's only been a pro in MMA since July of 2007. He entered the WEC as a green fighter and got just one fight with Zuffa's smaller promotion before it phased out the middleweight division. Rosholt was probably thrown to the wolves a little too early in UFC. He went 1-2 with a win over Chris Leben and losses to Grove and Dan Miller. Clearly, his goal is to get back to the UFC.
"I just want to keep fighting and keep getting better all the time. Sooner or later I'll get there. That's where I deserve to be. That's where the best fighters are. That's where I want to fight," said Rosholt.
The takedowns always score with the judges and Horwich stayed on his back too long. On the feet, Horwich's charging flurries confused Rosholt a bit in the first, but it was the wrestler who did more damage in the long run. In the final round, he tried an unorthodox flying knee that missed, but followed it up with a left hook that opened a cut over Horwich's right eye. Horwich also had significant swelling under the eye by the end of the fight.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez was also on the card. He ran through a very overmatched Doug Williams and won via rear-naked choke at 2:16 of the first round. Williams (5-13-1) was a late replacement after a wacky weigh-in day where Rodriguez's original opponent missed the catchweight by 23 pounds. This is a career rebirth for Rodriguez (47-11), who's fighting back from a well-publicized battle against drug addiction. The UFC champ back in 2002 ballooned to 300-plus pounds. Last night, he was 227 pounds and still looks like he should eventually fight down at 205 with some more conditioning work. Rodriguez's previous two fights were at a 215-pound catchweight.
The most dramatic moment of the night came when Alan Jouban crushed and finished Andrew Goldthwaite with a left hook (3:25 mark).

Davis out of UFC 133: Tito says no, UFC trying to make Evans-Machida II
Sometimes an injury can crush a card, but the UFC may catch a break this time. The promotion confirmed that Davis is out of the main event at UFC 133 with an injury and now the search is on for replacement to face Rashad Evans.
Who fills in? There aren't many big names available. Tito Ortiz, a winner just 10 days ago at UFC 132, was offered, said no thanks and explained via Twitter:
I have a life and things to take care of. The fight game is about making the right choices of my career. If you knew what I have been going through you all would understand. Peaking for a fight is what makes a fighter unstoppable! Timing is everything in life. This is a rebuild year for me not do or die. The time will come again!
Lyoto Machida is the most obvious candidate. Machida (17-2, 9-2 UFC) last fought in late April. It took him just 65 seconds to knockout out Randy Couture at UFC 129. Now Machida and his management team have to decide if he should take a fight on 25 days notice against a guy he already destroyed.
Machida produced one of the nastier knockouts in UFC history when he took away Evans' UFC light heavyweight title back at UFC 98. Evans (15-1-1, 10-1-1 UFC) tried to counter-strike with one of the best counter-strikers in the world, and was left twisted and out cold on the floor.

Evans still switched training camps even after a scheduled fight with former training partner Jon Jones went by the wayside. He's now working mainly out of Imperial Athletics in Boca Raton, Fla.
In fight No. 1 versus Machida, he employed lots of fakes and laid back. Hopefully, we'll get to see what Mike Van Arsdale and Brazilian Top Team can bring to the table.
If Machida says no, who's the next best option? Would Evans agree to face Rich Franklin or Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, who are already scheduled to fight each other on the UFC 133 undercard? A Strikeforce fighter like Gegard Mousasi (scheduled to fight at DREAM 17 this weekend) simply isn't high profile enough to put in a main event in the UFC. Any other ideas?
